Taipei, the capital city has plenty to see and do. On a short vacation? Just

stay in Taipei and follow my guide below. Below are places I've personally been to and recommend:

Before you get started, here's a few pics from my recent trip to Taipei in Sept 2015

Night Markets:

    1. Shilin Night market : Jiantan MRT station, easy to see once you get off the station
    2. Tonghua night market: My personal favorite, Not as crowded as Shilin, Right off of Tonghua street. Try the sugarcane hot drink, with a little bit of ginger added. There’s a GREAT shui jiao (dumpling) place near here as well
    3. Shida: Very busy and popular, right next to Shida University. Go to Taipower MRT Station, go out Exit 3, turn right at Shida Road, keep going and you’ll see it soon.

Most of the shots below are from TongHua night Market, Still my favorite!

Hot Springs

    1. Beitou hot springs: Go to MRT XinBeitou station, there are some inexpensive public ones walking distance from there,
    2. Hot Springs Smorgishbord: Xingyi Road. Go to MRT Shipai station, take bus 536, get off at Xingyi Road 3, (there’s 3 xingyi road stops) You can choose from at least 10 hot springs, only about 200NT! ~$6 They have public gender separated baths or ones for couples.
    3. Jiaoxi: GREAT day trip, leave in the afternoon, hike, then hit a hot spring (outdoor or indoor) at night. Go to Taipei City hall MRT stop, go to the Big bus station in the same building, take a bus to Jiaoxi (90NT) Get off the bus, walk to Jiaoxi train station, take the shuttle bus to Wufenqi (waterfall), or the Linmei Shipan Trail

Hiking:

    1. Go to Jiaoxi: Bus from Taipei City Hall MRT station, walk to the Jiaoxi train station, then take the Shuttle bus to the Linmei Shipan Trail. Awesome walk, not very strenuous
    2. Yanmingshan: Great hiking place, go to the
    3. Hualian: Taroko Gorge: This is at least a day trip but totally worth it. Stay in a YH or CS around the area. Best thing to do is rent a scooter from Hualien train station, but you need to research the path how to get to the national park. Totally awesome place!

Cultural place/Village + Views

    1. Wulai: Awesome hot spring Also features a small train that goes up the mountain great half-day trip!! Go to the Xindian Station, take appropriate bus, many ppl going to Wulai from here
    2. Bitan: At Xindian Station: Beautiful river view at night, you can walk right the river area from Xindian station, great relaxing place to be at night.

Foods!

    1. Mango Ice: Yongkan Street, right off HePing E.Road. Delicious shaved ice w/ mango, even if its cold you should try this!! The best one I know in Taiwan , hands down.
    2. Shui Jiao (Dumplings), Google 五花馬水餃館(信義店, I love this place, called Wu hua Dumplings, near the intersection of Guangfu S.Road and Xinyi Road, right next to a gas station there.
    3. Milk Tea: No trip to Taiwan is complete without milk tea. get half sugar and half ice, delicious.
    4. TenTuaBing: like a flour/onion pancake, get it with an egg (Jia Dan), and some hot sauce on there, super good! Find this in the night markets, and many other places.
    5. Many more foods I cant remember ATM, I’ll add to the list later.
